Creativity

Logic will take you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.
— Albert Einstein

I would take this a step further: imagination will take you to places that have never been, continually expanding the boundaries of everywhere.

Creativity is a function of imagination. And I would submit that creativity has been the most significant factor in the advancement of human civilization.

We can begin with the wheel: the invention of the wheel was an act of creativity more than science, as someone was imagining something new and different.

The Founding Fathers were using their collective imagination in envisioning a new country with a new form of government, a country when at its best would serve as a light to the entire world.

And over the millennia, artists and writers have used imagination and creativity to add beauty and meaning to the world, inspiring countless numbers to strive for greatness.

We might not think we are creative, but each of us has the power of imagination, and the power to imagine is the power to create.

Creation can come in many forms. It need not be a new invention or a new enterprise. It may be a new friendship or a new affiliation with a worthwhile organization. It may be as simple as a small piece of writing or work of art that tells us a bit more about ourselves.

It is all right there for our taking. We just need to use our imagination.

Discussion

  • Take a few minutes to let your imagination run free.

  • Where is this taking you?

  • How might this change your daily activities?
