Humility

Humility is a reminder that we are not above others. It is a reminder that the world does not revolve around us and that every human being is entitled to the same dignity and respect that we want for ourselves.

Humility is also a reminder that we make mistakes, and that when we do so we need to appropriately redress the situation, usually by making amends with another human being.

Humility does not mean absence of confidence. Successful people are confident people, and at the same time they are often humble people. What humility reminds even the most successful people is that there is always room for improvement and there is always something new to be learned.

As members of broader society, we have a duty to remain humble no matter how great our success and accomplishments.

Never look down on anybody unless you’re helping them up.

Discussion

  • Is there an area of life in which you think you are so perfect that you would no longer accept the advice of another?

  • Have you shut yourself out from further learning?
